Wellington (Saturday, 6/17)- The Pumas dominated the Central Florida Kraze in a game they need to learn to win. The squad played their best game of the season by playing possession soccer throughout the 90 minutes. Central Florida opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a cross from a free kick. The Pumas would tie the game in the 56th minute only to fall behind again on Chris Cerroni’s second goal of the match. Central Florida would add a third in the 80th minute on a counterattack goal. The Pumas late fight added one more goal to make the final 3-2. Despite the loss the Pumas felt they did gain something from the match.
For the past several weeks in practice the team had been working on their possession game. It allows the squad to play to their strengths and avoid their weaknesses when the team plays on large fields such as the International Polo Club and against the technical teams in the heat of Florida. “It helps develop the players to concentration for 90 minutes,” says Coach Lennon.
“I was proud of our play but disappointed in the result. I think going into the final stretch of the season we will put ourselves in position to win. It will be a tight race to the end because the top 4 teams in the division continue to knock each other off. I do not think anybody would have guessed Bradenton would lose to Cocoa 6-2 today,” said Coach Bobby Lennon.
